ISO 9001:2026: FDIS Successfully Approved

The revision of the world's most widely used quality management standard has reached a significant milestone: ISO member organizations have approved the Final Draft International Standard (FDIS) ISO 9001:2026 "Quality management systems – Requirements." This means the standard has now entered its final phase before publication in september 2026.

The vote on the Final Draft International Standard (FDIS) resulted in overwhelming international approval: 99% of participating members voted in favor of adoption. A heartfelt thank you goes to the outstanding group of international experts who contributed to this revision with great dedication, expertise, and passion. Austria was represented in this group by Thomas Waldner, Product Management Quality at Quality Austria, who served in this role as the delegate of National Committee 129 – Quality Management Systems and Business Excellence, ensuring that national interests were represented.

New Standard, New Priorities

ISO 9001:2026 elevates topics such as quality culture and ethical behavior to a normative level, among other things, and takes a fresh look at the relationship between risks and opportunities. The standard is intended to remain relevant, practical, and effective for organizations worldwide. "ISO 9001:2026 is the logical next step in a journey from quality control, through quality management, to quality culture. With ethical behavior, a balanced view of opportunities and risks, and a consistent focus on the effectiveness of the management system, it places the true measure of successful management systems at the center: sustainable added value for the organization," says Thomas Waldner, Product Management Quality at Quality Austria.
