PEFC RED II certification is an EU-wide recognized system for players in the biomass and biogas market and offers numerous advantages:
- Provide legally secure and transparent proof of compliance with the EU RED II Directive (2018/2001) and fulfillment of the requirements for your company.
- Gain access to the EU electricity and heat markets with PEFC RED II certification.
- Use PEFC RED II certification to claim subsidies, such as the European Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS).
- Increase transparency through independent audits in your company and the upstream supply chain and identify potential for improvement.
- PEFC RED II certification helps you to drive the green transformation and achieve the goals of the EU Green Deal by promoting sustainable practices in your company and demonstrating compliance with environmentally friendly standards.
- PEFC is known as a forest certification, is practicable, the existing COC certificate can be easily extended and is particularly suitable for the procurement of biomass in private forests.
Climate change, caused by greenhouse gas emissions from industrialization and unsustainable land use, has a significant impact on political and economic decisions. To counteract this, the EU has introduced regulations on the sustainable use of biomass with Directive 2009/28/EC and its new version RED II. These directives aim to promote the use of renewable energies and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
The PEFC RED II system is a voluntary certification system that is recognized by the European Commission and national authorities. The PEFC RED II standard was developed by PEFC International to ensure the sustainable production and use of bioenergy from domestic forests.
