What Aviation Suppliers Need to Know Now
EN 9100 on the Verge of Change
The aerospace industry is facing the most significant update to its quality management standard since the introduction of EN 9100:2018. As part of the upcoming revision of ISO 9001, the aerospace standard will also be revised and published in the future under the globally standardized designation IA9100. The publication is currently expected in late 2026 or early 2027.
Why the change?
The previously regionally distinct designations AS9100 (America), EN9100 (Europe), and JISQ 9100 (Asia) are to be replaced by the globally uniform standard IA9100 (International Aerospace 9100). The goal is to achieve greater international harmonization and more efficient change and certification management within the global aerospace industry.
What are the key priorities?
The aviation industry has undergone significant changes over the past decade. Global supply chains, cyberattacks, a shortage of skilled workers, and increasing regulatory requirements are shaping the environment for suppliers. The upcoming IA9100 responds to these challenges with expanded requirements in the following areas:
- Information security and data protection
- Product safety and safety culture
- Quality culture and leadership accountability
- Supplier and subcontractor management
- Counterfeit parts prevention
- Consideration of human factors in error analysis
- Risk management and supply chain resilience
In particular, the greater integration of information security into the quality management system demonstrates how closely quality, digitalization, and cybersecurity will be intertwined in the future.
